Mike Ananny received his M.S. in Media Arts and Sciences in 2001. He is currently researching and designing new technology-enhanced toys to help children learn new language skills. His specific focus is is on tangible interfaces that let young children create oral stories in ways similar to how they will eventually author written stories. Ananny also has a deep interest in developing learning tools and activities that let users collaboratively engage in natural behaviours away from traditional desktop computers. While at the Media Lab, he has also worked with the Gesture and Narrative Language group. Ananny holds an Honours BSc. from the University of Toronto where he double-majored in Computer Science and Human Biology and studied psycholinguistics and human-computer interaction. While an undergraduate, he also helped start Expresto Software (a desktop movie-making company founded by Professor Ron Baecker) and worked in a number of different positions (human resources, network security and corporate design) with Nortel Networks.
