Dan Chak worked with the Tangible Media Group for four years as an undergraduate, followed by two years as a Masters student. As an undergraduate, he worked on the Luminous Room project, extending the Urban Planning application for class use in the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning. He also worked on the second generation version of TouchCounters, known as ActiveShelf. His graduate work centered around formalizing an application framework for interactive workbench applications that are inspired from the original Luminous Room work. Specifically, he worked on a circuit simulation workbench, which was used in MIT Physics classrooms.

Outside of TMG, databases and web-based applications are Dan's specialty. In addition to maintaining a number of websites around the net, Dan has made contributions to the opensource OpenACS/dotLRN project -- a web toolkit for creating powerful, scaleable, database-backed community-oriented websites. Dan also enjoys driving, Indian food, Rubik's Cubes, high altitudes, Bjork, and New York City.
