ullmer@media.mit.edu (617) 452-5609 office NE18-5F Brygg Ullmer received his Ph.D. in Media Arts and Sciences in August 2002. Brygg's research involved the design and study of "tangible interfaces" -- user interfaces employing physical objects, surfaces, and spaces as representations and controls for computationally mediated information. His projects have focused on ways these interfaces can be used to manipulate networked content. These range from relatively general-purpose physical interfaces like the wooden blocks of "mediaBlocks" to more content-specific physical representations within "Strata." He is also interested in theories and grammars describing different kinds of tangible interfaces. Brygg received his undergraduate degree in computer engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1994, and his MS with the Tangible Media group in 1997. He interned for Interval Research between 1993-95, and is currently an IBM Media Lab fellow. Outside the lab, recreation finds him dancing with the MIT Ballroom Dance Team, singing, playing the piano, and pursuing random opportunities to wander in the woods. http://web.media.mit.edu/~ullmer/ |
